Montrose Dog Beach Photos at 6:00 a.m!

I was very excited when I got an email from a couple looking for Montrose Dog Beach Photos of their two dogs.

I have done a few sessions at Montrose Dog Beach this year and the sessions are always fun.

This beach has almost four acres of dog friendly space.

It is really great for dogs who like water, but may not like to actually swim. The water stays shallow pretty far out with just a little dip about a foot deep before a sand bar forms most of the year.

I had a wedding the night before to photograph but armed with the biggest cup of Dunkin coffee I was all set to start at 6:00 a.m.

We had golden light for these Montrose Dog Beach Photos

I met the couple and their dogs in the car park and we went right onto the beach as the sun was rising.

These two pups were full of energy right out the gate. We let them run around for a while to settle down, but it was soon clear they were not going to settle down. Thankfully we were planning on active photos mostly for this session. Studio photos are great for some dogs who are less active, but for active dogs there is no better way to get great photos than an outdoor session.

Both dogs had really good recall, well until they knew it was time to go haha, but that’s how my own dog is and I’m sure many clever dogs are the same.

We threw balls and a frisky and just let the dogs play. We stayed to one side as a few other dogs arrived, but at 6:00 a’. there were not too many haha.

I purposely dressed in old shoes and shorts so I could wade into the water and get photos as the dogs splashed around. Ay sunset I could likely stay on the beach more, but I wanted some of the golden light on the dogs from the sunny side so I waded a bit deeper that the dogs and shot towards the beach sometimes.

I think these photos captured the character and fun these dogs had all morning.

We ended the session with a family photo with their lovely owners. In hindsight we should have started with that as the dogs were all wet haha. But the photos look great and we has lovely light by 7:15.

If you would like a fun outdoor session with your dog, go here for information on pricing and packages and let’s plan a session here or at a favorite park.

I’m always up for early morning or late afternoon Montrose Dog Beach Photos

I chose to photograph most of these photos with my 70-200 mm lens. I live primes in the studio, but when you have busy dogs running around a zoom lens makes so much sense. I had a second camera on hand with a 24 – 105 mm lens for a few wider shots. I seldom photograph anything without two cameras. Firstly so I have backup gear, and secondly so I dod not have to swap lenses. A sandy beach is definitely not a place you want to be swapping lenses haha.
