Makray Memorial Wedding

Rachel and Charlie had an incredible Makray Memorial Wedding in mid October.

The day started with the girls getting ready at a local hotel.
Charlie and the men were also getting ready at the same hotel a few miles from Makray Memorial Golf Club. With everyone in one hotel, I was able to transition between Rachel and her bridal party and Charlie and his son upstairs in the hotel.

Stunning Makray Memorial Views
The outdoor ceremony space at Makray Memorial Golf Club is simply stunning. One one side the clubhouse is a beautiful stone backdrop covered in vines. Behind the ceremony space are wide open views of the rolling hills on the golf corse.

During the ceremony we were spoilt with lovely light. The clouds added awesome color in the sky and soft light on faces. I knew ahead of time that this wedding would be full of special candid moments. Outdoor ceremonies are really a whole lot easier to catch those candid reactions. If you knew the story behind the blending of these two families you would totally understand all the emotional moments.
I made sure I had a long lens on one camera and a wide lens ready on the other one to capture all the emotion of the ceremony.

I had to take a quick run up to the balcony of the clubhouse to get this wide angle shot.
I made sure I checked with the officiant before to make sure I would have time and not miss anything I needed to be close for.

There were very few dry eyes by the end of the ceremony. I was all teary eyed myself. At one point I looked over at the venue manager and she was all choked up too, so I did not feel bad haha. Both Families had come through a lot to end up at this amazing day.

Between the tears were smiles, laughter and such a sense of joy.

We had to chase the last of the light as we raced off in golf carts to this cool bridge for some formals. So worth the ride!

With a time crunch, and light fading, I was glad to have a small light on hand to create a sunset family photo and then transition to a silhouette without moving anyone much.
Two looks in a few seconds!
Weddings are always a tension between time and creativity. This is when years of experience matters. I knew I would only have space on a golf cart for a small light and little time to set one up once we got there. I set up an off camera flash in a small Magmod soft box before the ceremony and had it waiting on a small light stand by the golf carts.

The reception continued the emotions of the day. Each of the kids gave a speech, the girls had a secret dance prepared.
So many unique moments.
