Kinzie Street Bridge Engagement Photos
I love engagement sessions at Kinzie Street Bridge!
Kinzie Street Bridge is always one of the first places I suggest to couples for Chicago engagement sessions. There are so many great place in Chicago for engagement sessions, but this is high on my favorites list.
Firstly, it’s an historic bridge with so many cool lines and such good views of the city. Years ago it offered a wonderful view of the Sears tower, but that was blocked a few years ago by a new tall building. But it still offers great city views and river views.
I love going to Kinzie Street Bridge on Sundays when traffic tends to be lower. Week days can be a bit busy, but weekends offer some great open spaces between traffic so I can let couples get into the middle lane safely. This allows some great options for photos shooting through the beams and trusses.
Parking at Kinzie Street is far easier than so many venues couples like for engagement photos. There is metered parking on the east side of the bridge. I often tell clients to google the East Bank Club and park on the street across from there. There is metered street parking that stays well under the local parking garage prices. It’s a short walk to the bridge and if you park well its a straight shot onward from there to North Avenue Beach or the Lincoln Park Zoo.
Very often when I do an engagement session it starts here and then we move to North Avenue Beach for sunset. It’s a great way to get two very different backgrounds close to each other. Many couples will change outfits at North Avenue beach.
Kinzie Street Bridge offers a great variety of close up shots and wide shots with city views and sometimes a train passes by in the background.
I purposely include a free engagement session with every wedding couple I book. For a few years in the early 2000’s I contracted for some large wedding photography companies. Very often I did not get to meet the couple before their wedding day. They had spoken to a rep on the phone, met another rep at a meeting and may not have chosen an engagement session. This left me arriving on wedding day as a total stranger. On a side note I have to wonder if they even saw my work with the way some of the big companies like that run. But I digress haha.
Now I am on my own I far prefer meeting a couple at least once or twice before their wedding day. If I have photographed a couple ad hung out for a while, I don’t arrive as a guy with an accent and a camera. I arrive and carry on where we left off. Trust me this makes the whole day go better and I find couples can relax so much more having seen themselves in my work already.
I would love to be your engagement and wedding photographer.
